Everyone wants to go to work and return home safely each day; it seems like a simple thing to expect from your job.  At NBN Co, we rate health and safety as a key priority. This means the wellbeing of our workforce is rated above all other company considerations.

Within Network Operations, we are responsible for safely managing the operations and maintenance activities associated with our fibre, fixed wireless and satellite networks in a variety of settings including work on power poles, wireless towers and remote locations.

To drive a safety culture within the company, the senior management team has established safety as a core value - ‘we are safe, disciplined and reliable’. This value establishes:

• an expectation that safety is embedded into the fabric of the organisation, including company priorities, projects and supplier and partner engagement
• an anchor for every employee to base their behaviours and actions
• a visible standard for our suppliers and contractors to meet

On a regular basis, we spend time in the field discussing safety with our employees and contractors and we are continually encouraged to see the effort that goes into safety. However, we cannot afford to be complacent.

Our safety programmes include comprehensive hazard and risk analysis, hazard management programmes, training programmes, audit regimes and contractor management.  All of this is supported by our safety leadership initiatives.
